South County Motor Sports Club

scmsc (10K) South County was formed in 1967 and became incorporated in 1968. It was an era of wire wheels, gasoline with lead and clocks went clockwise because they weren't yet digital. We met once a month at the Howard Johnson's in North Kingstown for club business. When I joined the club membership had reached 33. Our monthly rallies started from the Kingstown Plaza and usually ended at Custy's.

The club newsletter was The Bullrake "Published Monthly in Occupied East Greenwich". Ken and Marsha Frausel were the editors. It carried announcements of our own as well as neighboring clubs' events, results of our events and successes of club teams at outside rallies. Regular articles included Minnie Cooper's Advice to the Lovelorn. The Bullrake was printed on a duplicating machine and it was a big deal when we bought a real mimeograph in June, 1968 (there was no Kinko's) because now we could print on both sides of the paper! This was at a time when first class postage was only 6 cents.
