The Beginning
My first encounter with rallying was in April of 1968. The local newspaper announced "April in Paris" sponsored by the South County Motor Sports Club with Rallymaster Bill Channel. My roommate, Frank Stevenson, had a car available and took his girlfriend. I went along and took a few photos.
The object of the rally was to visit five places (of a team's choice) each of which were spelled beginning with each of the letters "P", "A", "R", "I", and "S". The goal was to visit the five places and yet have the least mileage. Teams had to prove that they did indeed visit the places. Apparently, some contestants stole some signs - not good for PR.
Anyway, Frank placed 39th out of 50. We both joined SCMSC the following month.
