Autocross

South County was a motor sports club and as such we did more than just rally. During the warmer months we participated in time trials or autocrosses. These were most often held at the Rhode Island Go Cart Track. The track was just a little wider than a driveway and had switchbacks about 50 feet apart. It was hilarious to see the big muscle cars try to negotiate the 1/10 mile course. The smaller cars had the advantage here.

In early spring we usually were able to get Fort Getty in Jamestown for time trials. This course was much easier for the big cars. It was basically a 1/4 mile drag strip with a bend in it.

Occasionally we'd get permission to use a parking lot at a shopping center and we'd set up cones to define a short course. I cringe to think now about the risks to the spectators.
